G’day, a few years ago I moved from Mt. Gambier to Cairns, but am sadly back in Adelaide currently.
I really enjoyed my time living up there and am looking to return one day, the annual rainfall for the region is around 5 Metres! so it all drains away quite well – in short time, as the roads are designed to handle such large amounts of rainfall, any damage is quickly repaired, the roads should be fine but put a call into the RACQ to confirm.
I found it quite cheap to live there, do your grocery shopping at Smithfield, and you can pick up cheap fruit & veg. and Seafood from the roadside stalls between there and the city. I had a 1 bedroom fully furnished unit 2 streets off the beach at Palm Cove for $150wk. Hostels are really cheap too and there is heaps to choose from, its nearing the beginning of the best part of the year up there, once this last cyclone nicks off it should be awesome.
North Queensland Property Management is the place to look for a rental.
